Aged & Disabled Waiver

The Aged and Disabled Waiver (ADW) Program is a long-term care alternative providing services designed to support and assist individuals who are aged or have disabilities. Locations for services include members' homes and communities where they reside, work and perform daily activities as opposed to in a nursing facility. The objective of this program is to promote choice, independence, participant-direction, respect, and dignity by providing person-centered services. The WV ADW Program is a federally approved program operated in WV by the Bureau for Medical Services (BMS), which contracts with Acentra Health as the Utilization Management Contractor (UMC).

The Bureau of Senior Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations and oversight of the ADW Program. As the UMC, Acentra Health is responsible for conducting initial and re-evaluation medical eligibility assessments, maintaining analyzing and providing program enrollment data and supporting the program’s processes through the comprehensive, web-based CareConnection© system. Acentra Health also reviews and determines prior authorization decisions for requested services.
